“The Last Living Rose.”
PJ Harvey’s 2011 Mercury Prize-winning album Let England Shake is fodder for my Union Jack-loving, tea-sipping soul. When it was released, Andy Gill, reviewing for The Independent, wrote that it painted a “portrait of [England] as a country built on bloodshed and battle.”
Too fucking right.
“Goddamn Europeans
Take me back to beautiful England
And the grey, damp filthiness of ages
And battered books
And fog rolling down behind the mountains
On the graveyards and dead sea captains.”
